LPGA: HSBC Women’s Champions Top Five Fantasy Picks
This group will all play the weekend, but is one of them the winner?
You can’t go wrong with any pick from this group. Defending champion Ha Na Jang has already notched one win on the 2017 season, the Women’s Australian Open, and she recorded a top 10 finish last week in Thailand. There’s no reason not to bet on her delivering a winning game this week and making it back-to-back victories.
However, So Yeon Ryu also delivered a very hot game last week in Thailand, as did In Gee Chun. And Ariya Jutanugarn should never be discounted, even if she didn’t collect that home turf victory I predicted. Any of these three could also lead your team to victory. Ryu and Jutanugarn have both played Sentosa and are familiar with the golf course. This is Chun’s Singapore debut but she’s a quick study. Don’t let that deter you from putting her on your team.
Shanshan Feng left me a bit disappointed with her Thailand performance, but maybe she’s knocked the rust off her game and is ready to go now. It all depends on how you feel about Shanshan. She’ll be in the mix because she generally is, but I don’t know if I’m ready to bet on her for the win just yet.
I’d shy away from Lydia Ko, who still doesn’t seem to have her game up to speed, and Lexi Thompson, who sometimes wilts in the Asian humidity, even though she’s also recorded wins in Asian events. I’m going to keep Thompson on hold until we get to the Arizona desert.
