PGA Tour Fantasy Picks: Arnold Palmer Invitational
By Sam Belden
Francesco Molinari — $8,600
Another European who’s shot some low scores at Bay Hill in recent years, Molinari is a DraftKings manager’s dream this week. The Italian has been playing steady golf all year long and is available at a reasonable salary, so all signs point to him providing great fantasy value this week.
Molinari was tearing up the European Tour toward the end of 2016, and he’s managed to sustain that good play into the new year as he’s ramped up his PGA Tour schedule. All told, he’s found the top 20 in eight of his last nine starts around the world, making him one of the most consistent players out there. While he’s never hoisted a trophy in the United States, the Arnold Palmer Invitational will be one of his best opportunities of the season to do so — he’s finished inside the top 20 in each of the past three years, notching a tie for fifth in 2014 and a tie for ninth last year.
Even on the European Tour, Molinari has never been a prolific winner, so it would be a bit of a surprise to see him in the winner’s circle at the end of this week. However, he’s as steady a player as they come, so plug him in and expect low scores.
