Annika Sorenstam:

"Well, the first time I saw Mr. Palmer was literally just on TV growing up in Sweden. He was a legend over there. He was the king over there. And I wanted to play golf. I mean, I played tennis and all kinds of other sports. But it wasn’t until I came to the U.S. that I met him for the first time. And he made you feel special. He made you feel like you were the only one in the room, even though there was hundreds of people there. He looked you in the eye and I think my heart fluttered a little bit extra, yeah."

Annika Sorenstam is, herself, a golf legend and one of golf’s greats, is among those who have stepped up in 2017 to attend to hosting duties The King traditionally assumed at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Sorenstam held Arnold Palmer in high regard as a competitive golfer but their relationship extended into his retirement from competition and hers as they collaborated in golf course design, most recently at Tartan Park in Lake Elmo, Minnesota, where the two nines were named “The King” and “The Queen” in honor of the design team.
