PGA Tour Power Rankings: WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play
By Sam Belden
Rory McIlroy — 46th
McIlroy hasn’t missed out on the top 10 in any one of his starts since his victory at the Tour Championship last September, making him one of the most consistent players out there. He’s also a statistical juggernaut — at last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational, he led the field in strokes gained: tee-to-green and ranked third in putts per green in regulation, the kind of play that should lead to plenty of opportunities to attack the course this week. Last year, he enjoyed a great run at Austin Country Club before losing to eventual champion Jason Day, so history is on his side.
Given his recent play, McIlroy looks as capable of making a WGC-Match Play run as ever. After last year’s narrow loss, he should be more motivated to outdo the opposition than ever, so look for him to give us some memorable moments this week.
