Rafa Cabrera-Bello — 109th

Cabrera-Bello was excellent at last year’s WGC-Match Play, defeating a number of worthy opponents before falling to Louis Oosthuizen in the semifinals. However, the real highlight of his week came on Sunday afternoon, when he defeated then-world No. 3 Rory McIlroy in the consolation match for third place in the event.

That payday helped him to earn a spot on Team Europe at last year’s Ryder Cup, as well as a PGA Tour card for 2016-17, so he’ll roll into this year’s event with significantly more fanfare than he did last year. With four top 20s in seven starts, his 2017 form has been just fine.

This is just the WGC-Match Play’s second year in Austin, so trusting course history is always a gamble, but Cabrera-Bello’s consistency makes him a relatively safe bet to succeed. Barring an exceptionally tough draw, he should have a great chance to escape his group.
