Group 2: Rory McIlroy, Emiliano Grillo, Gary Woodland, Soren Kjeldsen

Sam’s Pick: McIlroy — There’s plenty of intrigue surrounding this group. The rematch between McIlroy and Woodland, the finalists at the 2015 WGC-Match Play at Harding Park, should be one of the highlights of pool play. Both men have played well this year, and while Woodland has slowed down in recent weeks, he should still have what it takes to put up a fight.

Grillo, the 2016 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, hasn’t been great this year, but he’ll have momentum from a tie for seventh at last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational. Kjeldsen, who’s struggled in his first full season as a PGA Tour member, looks likely to bring up the rear in this group.

The McIlroy versus Woodland storyline is an intriguing one, but given Rory’s run to the semifinals at last year’s WGC-Match Play, he should have the edge.

Beth’s Pick: McIlroy — No argument here. Rory has the game to play past these three.
