Houston Open: Top 5 DraftKings Picks for PGA Tour Fantasy
By Sam Belden
Jim Herman punched his ticket to the 2016 Masters with a win at the Houston Open a week before. Will anyone be so lucky this year?
After last week’s match play detour, the PGA Tour will return to regular stroke play action at this week’s Shell Houston Open. Well-known as the last chance for non-qualified players to force their way into the field at the Masters, the event has been held at the Golf Club of Houston for the past 11 years.
While many of the game’s top players are using this week to rest up for Augusta National, others have made the Houston Open an important component of their major preparations. Fantasy managers would do well to keep an eye on those who are big on name recognition but have been low on consistency in recent weeks — think Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose. Any insights that might inform your Masters predictions are crucial.
World No. 1 Dustin Johnson withdrew from the event on Monday, but there’s no shortage of talented players in the field, so we should be in for an exciting tournament. Perhaps we’ll even get to see the winner secure a last-minute Masters bid, as Jim Herman did a year ago.
Without further ado, let’s get to my picks for this week. Here are five solid fantasy plays for the Shell Houston Open. Each player’s DraftKings salary is listed next to his name.
