Houston Open: Top 5 DraftKings Picks for PGA Tour Fantasy
By Sam Belden
Phil Mickelson — $8,900
If Rahm is the top young gun on the PGA Tour, then Mickelson is its most impressive ageless wonder. At a time when most of his peers are eagerly waiting for their Champions Tour eligibility to kick in, Lefty is posting consistent results in some of the world’s most prestigious golf tournaments.
With back-to-back top 10 finishes at the WGC-Mexico Championship and WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, Mickelson’s game is holding up against the top players in the game. He had a week to remember in Austin last week, breezing through four straight matches before falling to Bill Haas in the quarterfinals. Perhaps more importantly, he owns an outstanding track record at the Shell Houston Open, winning it in 2010 and finding the top 20 in every year since then. If he can keep that run going, he’ll get the shock of momentum he needs as we head to the Masters.
At $8,900 in DraftKings, Mickelson is actually priced quite reasonably this week, so you shouldn’t have any reservations about slotting him into your lineup. His victory drought may turn four years old this summer, but he’s shown an ability to provide solid fantasy value time and time again over that stretch.
