Houston Open: Top 5 DraftKings Picks for PGA Tour Fantasy
By Sam Belden
Jhonattan Vegas — $7,300
For this Venezuelan, the storm has finally relented — gone are the days when he was injury prone and often fighting for his PGA Tour card. Since winning the RBC Canadian Open last summer, Vegas has been one of the game’s more consistent players, so he could make a lot of sense for fantasy managers this week.
With three top 20s in his last four starts, including a tie for fourth at the Honda Classic and a tie for 17th at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play just last week, Vegas’ form is as consistent as it’s ever been. While he doesn’t dominate in any one statistical category, his ranking of 34th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: tee-to-green is indicative of a strong all-around game with only one real weakness: putting. Because of his subpar short game, he’s always a fantasy risk, but he hasn’t fared too poorly on the greens in recent weeks. He also tied for 19th at last year’s Shell Houston Open.
With a $7,300 salary in DraftKings this week, Vegas is priced fairly cheaply for someone who’s been exhibiting such consistent form. With his skill set, the bet here is that he’ll be able to notch a solid finish in Humble for the second straight year.
