2017 Masters: Ranking First-Time Competitors’ Chances to Win
No. 10 Curtis Luck (a)
Australia’s Curtis Luck is the favorite to head to Butler Cabin to chat with Jim Nantz Sunday night after earning low amateur honors. Ranked No. 2 in the WAGR, this 20-year-old can play. He qualified for the 2017 Masters with a win at the US Amateur, arguably golf’s biggest amateur stage. Luck planned to turn pro in October, but will wait it out to cash his exemptions into the Masters and Open Championship first.
Luck appears destined for a solid professional career when the time comes. To his name are three made cuts on the European Tour, a win on the PGA Tour of Australasia win and an appearance on the winning 2016 Eisenhower Trophy team representing Australia.
Adam Scott, pictured above, broke the seal on Australian Masters winners back in 2013. If not Jason Day, Luck might have the best Aussie Augusta outlook for years to come.
