Daniel Berger — $7,300
This young gun hasn’t been the most consistent player on the circuit since the calendar turned to 2017, but fortunately for him, he appears to be on the upswing at the right time. Berger flashed some serious form in Houston last week, and with his solid performance at the 2016 Masters, he should be able to pack a fantasy punch at Augusta.
Berger had a productive week at the Shell Houston Open, where he ranked inside the top 10 in the field in three different strokes gained categories en route to a solo fifth. That performance lifted him to 20th in the race to the FedEx Cup, so he’s established himself as one of the better players in the world. While he didn’t putt spectacularly last week, the flatstick is generally one of the better clubs in his bag — he ranks 19th on the season in strokes gained: putting. Throw in his solid tie for 10th at last year’s Masters, and Berger looks like he could be a bona fide contender.
This week is a great opportunity for Berger to establish himself as a course horse at Augusta National, so you’d be wise to keep an eye on him. He’s available at just $7,300 this week, but that salary may be significantly higher come next year’s event.
