Scott Gregory, British Amateur Champion

Scott Gregory had a much tougher day than the other first timers in the 2017 Masters field. Gregory, the British Amateur Champion, seemed to have the nerves more than anybody starting the day. He began his round with a triple bogey 7 on the first hole, immediately followed by a bogey 6 on the second, a hole usually taken advantage of by the players.

This was definitely not the way Gregory wanted to start his Masters debut. Unfortunately, Gregory was never truly able to get things back under control after his tough start. Gregory ended up shooting an 82 on Saturday, a score he definitely won’t be happy about going forward. On Friday, Gregory ended up with a 3 over 75, a score most Amateurs would be ecstatic about.

It was too little too late for Gregory. His inability to score was mostly due to his low GIR numbers. He was only able to hit 14 of 36 greens, which comes out to 39%. Augusta is very much a second shot golf course, and in order to score, you must hit greens.

Gregory was not blessed with beginners luck in his first time out on Augusta. Gregory has been unclear about his plans going forward, however, many of us are looking for the former pro-shop salesman to be turning pro after getting a taste of The Masters.
