Edoardo Molinari – OWGR 245

With his last 3 European Tour finishes at T76 (Tshwane Open), T11 (Hero Indian Open), and a win (Trophee Hassan II), Edoardo Molinari’s game is definitely trending in the right direction. There’s no question that he’s coming in hot. The question is: can he sustain this level of play?

There’s been a long winless period between his very promising 2010 season, when he claimed victories at Barclays Scottish Open and the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, and his win last week in Morocco.

Oddly, Molinari’s playing stats haven’t changed significantly over the past seven years. He’s a bit lower than others in getting to the greens in regulation but once on the putting surface he has no problems finding the bottom of the cup. I think he’s just been going through one of those slumps all golfers know and despise. The antidote may be his finishes in India and Morocco.

Molinari’s coming to the tee with the advantage of 4 full rounds of experience on Genzon at the 2014 Volvo China Open and 2 recent successes. I’m looking for him to deliver a very respectable performance this week and wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him in contention again.
