Volvo China Open: European Tour DraftKings Picks
By Sam Belden
Brett Rumford — 30th
Another former winner of this event, Rumford’s big moment came back in 2013, when the tournament was in its final year at Binhai Lake Golf Club. His history at Topwin isn’t nearly as impressive, but the bright side to that is that this Aussie is available at a reasonable DraftKings salary this week, so fantasy managers should take note.
With three top 20s in his last four starts, Rumford will actually be one of the hotter players in this week’s field. That run includes a victory at the World Super 6 Perth two months ago — not the most reliable tournament as far as fantasy analysis goes, but impressive nevertheless. He continued to show some nice form at last week’s Shenzhen International, a performance that included a couple of midweek rounds in the 60s. With a tie for 34th at last year’s Volvo China Open, Rumford isn’t going to win many supporters with his track record, but for what it’s worth, he’s got a ton of experience playing in this part of the world.
At just $7,100 in DraftKings, Rumford is available at a bargain price in light of his most recent results. He should be a great choice, albeit a popular one, to fill out any lineup.
