No. 9 – Brian Gay

Official World Ranking – 260; FedEx Cup – 83

Ian Poulter got a lot of press when he lost his PGA Tour status with a missed cut at the Valero Texas Open, but not everyone realizes that he has Brian Gay to thank for that. Gay had also lost his member status at the end of his major medical exemption, but changes to the FedEx Cup points system made it significantly more difficult to reach the required level to maintain status. Gay brought this to the Tour’s attention, and earned himself and Poulter a deserved extension.

Between that and top-ten finishes in his last two starts, Gay is certain to head to Eagle Point revitalized, and more motivated than ever before. Gay’s putting has been absolutely spectacular in 2017, ranking fifth in strokes gained putting, and leading the tour in three-putt avoidance.
