Wells Fargo Championship: Top 5 DraftKings picks
By Sam Belden
Alex Noren — $6,600
This is a risky play, but doesn’t everyone in this price range carry some risk? While Noren is an established star on the European Tour, he has yet to find significant success on this side of the pond, making him a major fantasy enigma. Nothing’s guaranteed, but with this week’s unfamiliar course, the Wells Fargo Championship could be an ideal opportunity for this Swede to finally rise.
So far, 2017 has been a mild disappointment for Noren — he’s definitely not playing like he’s the 12th-ranked player in the world — but his play really hasn’t been all that bad. Just over a month ago, he tied for fifth against a world class field at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, and while he missed the cut in his last event, the Masters, it was his first competitive look at Augusta National. This week, the PGA Tour is heading into the uncharted waters of Eagle Point, so he won’t have to play catch-up in terms of course familiarity.
It’s anyone’s guess as to how Noren will perform this week, but we know that his ceiling is sky high. He may be one of the worst one-and-done options in the field, but at $6,600 in DraftKings, how can you not be tempted to take him as a flier?
