FedEx Cup rankings through Zurich Classic: May 3, 2017
FedEx Cup points race heats up as packed summer schedule nears
The FedEx Cup season is a little more than halfway over. Through the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, 25 points events have been played. Counting the split-field Barbasol Championship, played opposite the Open Championship in July, there are 18 tournaments remaining as PGA Tour players vie for playoff positioning.
With the Tour calendar packed with huge events in the coming months – The PLAYERS next week, and the summer milestones of the U.S. Open, Open Championship and PGA Championship – there will be plenty of opportunity for players to control their fates. As we’ll see here soon, though, the ones who already top that list won’t be eager to get out of the way anytime soon.
Every other week, I’ll be reviewing the top ten players in the FedEx Cup standings. Recent performances will be valued the highest, but overall season performance and an outlook to the future will be included, as well.
This week’s biggest moves were all outside the top ten, for now. Zurich Classic winners Jonas Blixt and Cameron Smith made the biggest leaps, with Blixt jumping 113 places, from 153rd to 40th. Smith is now inside the top 20, up from 67th the week before. Playoff runners-up Kevin Kisner and Scott Brown will enjoy the fruits of their extended labor as well. Brown now sits in 44th place, while Kisner is knocking on the door of the top ten, moving from 20th to 14th.
All statistics and rankings will be sourced from the PGA Tour’s official FedEx Cup page. Let’s get into the breakdown of this week’s standings.
