Jason Day — 104th

While Day has picked up just one top 10 finish since the calendar turned to 2017 — a tie for fifth at Pebble Beach — his other results haven’t been all bad. Most recently, he notched a tie for 23rd at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and a tie for 22nd at the Masters, both against strong fields. Ball striking has been his main bugaboo this year, but at third on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: around-the-green, he’s got enough skill to make up for that. His track record at the Players is a bit spotty, but with last year’s win and a few other solid finishes working in his favor, his history is ultimately a net positive.

No one has ever won back-to-back titles at TPC Sawgrass, but Day will look to change that this week. He’s not playing as well as he was last year, but he should have enough game to at least make a spirited attempt.
