Jason Day has a waggle that differs in at least 2 important respects from Ben Hogan’s. First, Day more exactly anticipates his golf swing than Hogan. There’s no wrist action in his waggle while Hogan’s is very “wristie.” Second, Day’s waggle includes a hint of shoulder rotation while Hogan’s body remains relatively stable during his routine.

So who’s right? They both are, and comparing them really underscores my point that there are as many different waggles as there are golfers. If it works for you, then that’s the right way to waggle.

Day and Hogan have this in common: both consistently incorporate their waggle into their pre-shot routine, and whether they’re driving the ball, coming out of the rough, shooting an approach with an 8 iron, or flopping over a bunker, they both waggle.
