Danny Lee

Official World Ranking: 125

FedEx Cup: 123

Best Nelson Finish: T-13, 2009

Danny Lee is a truly worldly golfer; South Korean born, New Zealand raised and now making his home in the Lone Star State. Perhaps it’s the lack of a state income tax, or maybe it has something to do with how much Lee seems to enjoy himself at the AT&T Byron Nelson.

Okay, it’s probably not that last part, but Lee has done just fine for himself over the years at TPC Las Colinas. Back in 2009, Lee had just turned pro after the Masters, and he earned his first top-25 as a pro, finishing T13. Lee returned to the Nelson in 2012, and only missed a single cut back in 2014.

Lee has mostly struggled in 2017, making just 10 cuts in 18 events. Based on last week’s PLAYERS Championship (MC, +11), you might not be expecting a ton out of Lee, but he’s shown the occasional flashes of brilliance, and could surpass expectations this week. One positive stat to look for: Lee ranks 33rd on Tour in birdie-or-better conversion (32.15%). The only problem? He ranks just 132nd in Greens-In-Regulation percentage.

Lee needs to start putting together some strong performances, not just for FedEx Cup positioning, but to make sure he remains eligible into 2018. This is as good a place as any for that run to start.
