12. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06

The goal of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 was simple: become an all-time great on the golf course. It was fun playing to become just that.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 was the first authentic golf video games to reach the Xbox 360. However, the game’s best features were on the PS2 and original Xbox. The course list was strong and even featured Central Park in New York as one of the layouts.

It also had a very enjoyable mode called “Rivals.” One of the themes of the game was going through different eras and what made Tiger 06’s Rivals mode stand out was the fact that you practically went through a time machine. You started off around the late 1800s/early 1900s era and your clubhouse (your career hub, essentially) would change over time as you progressed through the years.

Your journey in the late 1800s begins at St. Andrews, the home of golf. As you progress and defeat players in challenges, you eventually end up facing a boss in match play. Each era you go through, the tougher the players you go against. Once you make your way to the 70s, you have to face the Golden Bear, Jack Nicklaus, which is cool enough in itself.

Your clubhouse, your clubs and your clothing all change as the world spins around your head. The whole goal is to make your way to the present (2000s) and prepare yourself for an epic duel with Tiger Woods himself. There was even a “gamebreaker” meter you could fill up. Once the meter was full, you were destined to hit an incredible shot that would change the course of your match. A mode like this alone makes Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 a classic.
