Alex Noren hasn’t been able to match his 3-victory 2016 season this year but the memory of the Swede’s romp through the European Tour events last season doesn’t fade quickly. And his T5 finish at the WGC-Dell Technologies March Play and solo 10th at the PGA TOUR’s PLAYERS Championship in early May indicate that his game is trending in the right direction.

For a guy who’s not particularly long or accurate off the tee, Noren somehow gets the job done. He’s hitting 78.5% of the greens in regulation, well ahead of the pack, and he also has a slight edge on the putting surface. Do these kinds of playing stats really merit such a high ranking? Don’t discount the level of play that got him to those three 2016 victories.

Noren is a grinder and his recent performances at PGA TOUR events suggest to me that he may be getting ready to turn his 2017 campaign around. Look for him to contend this week.
