Volvik Championship fantasy golf top four picks
Minjee Lee: Rolex Rank – 19, Race to the CME Globe – 19
Fantasy managers are facing some difficult choices with this group. In addition to defending champ Jutanugarn, the group includes Lexi Thompson, So Yeon Ryu, and In Gee Chun, all playing extremely well right now, all closing in on the top of the world rankings.
Brooke Henderson, who finished T3 at the 2016 Volvik Championship and who’s feeling the push to step up her game and notch a 2017 win, is also in Group 1, as is Anna Nordqvist.
You can expect everyone in this group to make the cut and very likely challenge for a high finish. The trick will be picking the highest finisher or the likely 2017 champion. The dilemma is that all the players in Group 1 are proven champions and they are all a good choice.
I’m tapping Minjee Lee to lead my fantasy team this week because I think she’ll be coming to Travis Pointe looking for redemption for a disastrous final round at Kingsmill last week. The young Aussie was in contention through most of the final round, but fell victim to a series of on-course errors on the back nine and finished with a share of 10th place. While a top 10 finish isn’t all that terrible, it feels like a big disappointment when it could have been so much more but for some flawed club selection and shot decision-making.
Lee’s problems didn’t stop with that final putt on the 72nd hole. She forgot to sign her card – yet another unforced error on her part – and was ultimately DQed. Look for Minjee Lee to come back this week and play for a redemptive turnaround.
