This Massachusetts native impressed fantasy managers everywhere with his barrage of early-career wins, picking up three trophies between mid-2011 and early 2014. While the past three years haven’t been quite as kind to Stallings, his modicum of positive history at Colonial makes him a fascinating prospect this week.
Stallings had a week to remember at the 2013 Dean and DeLuca Invitational, shooting four rounds in the 60s to end up in a tie for fourth, three strokes off of Boo Weekley’s winning pace. He’s missed the cut in each of his two appearances since then, but that prior performance was just too good to dismiss as a fluke. Furthermore, Stallings is coming off of his best finish in a long time, snapping a streak of three consecutive missed cuts with a tie for 20th at last week’s AT&T Byron Nelson. There, he ranked 17th in strokes gained: off-the-tee and tied for 11th in strokes gained: around-the-green, so he’s hitting it well enough to pull off the Texas two-step this week.
Casual fans might have forgotten about Stallings, but he has enough firepower to nab another win sooner or later. This week might not be the one where he gets it, but that doesn’t mean he won’t sign for at least a couple of solid rounds.
