This Texan got a much-needed boost at the Dean & DeLuca Invitational last week, firing a bogey-free final round of 65 to climb into a share of second place. Coming on the heels of back-to-back missed cuts, that runner-up finish should do a lot to restore Spieth’s competitive juices heading into the Memorial Tournament.

Spieth has made the cuts in all four of his starts at Muirfield Village, with highlights including a tie for third in 2015 and a tie for 19th in 2014. He missed out on the top 50 in the other two years, so he’s not a lock for success, but his recent success on the greens — he ranked seventh in strokes gained: putting at Colonial last week — should push him in the right direction. While he’s missed two cuts in his last three starts, his yearlong totals of five top 10s and eight top 25s betray his overall consistency.

At just 23 years old, Spieth is years away from being a potential honoree at the Memorial Tournament, but with two major titles, he’s already well on his way to eventual enshrinement. Until then, a victory will have to do, so expect him to be in the thick of it this week.
