Most of the golfers in this feature are household names, but not Finau. In two-and-a-half years on the PGA TOUR, the Utah native has picked up one win and established himself as one of the circuit’s better players and yet has never qualified for The Masters or TOUR Championship. A good week at the Memorial Tournament would do plenty for Finau’s national profile, and luckily for him, there’s a lot to like about his game this week.

Finau has done nothing but shoot low scores in his career at Muirfield Village, posting a tie for eighth in 2015 and a tie for 11th just a season ago. That makes sense, as the course is known for being kind to long hitters, and Finau is as long as they come — he ranks fourth on the PGA TOUR in strokes gained: off-the-tee and seventh in driving distance. As for his recent results, the 27-year-old has notched six top-35 finishes in his last seven starts. His solid tie for 29th at Colonial, a course that clashes with his powerful style, is a testament to the state of his game at the moment.

Name recognition aside, this young gun looks ready to have a big week in Ohio. Finau is a statistical match for this week’s venue, so expect him to thrive.
