Hosted by Jack Nicklaus himself, the Memorial Tournament always attracts a strong field, but there are plenty of less prominent players lurking in the shadows this week.

The Memorial Tournament field, from Adam Scott to William McGirt, includes any number of notable players. Hosted by the great Jack Nicklaus, the Memorial is one of the PGA TOUR’s few special invitational events, and the increases in purse and prestige always lead to an outstanding field.

However, those big names — Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Hideki Matsuyama and many others — aren’t the focus of this slideshow. This feature is designed to encourage you to look at those diamonds in the rough, thoroughly sort through potential fantasy fliers and, ultimately, make a dark horse pick you can be proud of.

Almost any overlooked player can count as a sleeper pick, but I do have a couple of hard-and-fast rules: no top 50 players, and no PGA TOUR winners from the current season. This way, you’ll get to take a closer look at some names who haven’t gotten a whole lot of exposure this year, enhancing your preparedness for the big event.

Without further ado, let’s get to it. Here are five intriguing sleeper picks for the Memorial Tournament. Each player’s current position in the Official World Golf Ranking is listed next to his name.
