Memorial Tournament: 5 sleeper picks for Muirfield Village
By Sam Belden
Kevin Streelman — No. 148
Streelman has been plagued by inconsistency this year, but much like Lingmerth, the veteran regained his bearings at the Dean and DeLuca Invitational. With that modicum of momentum working in his favor, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Streelman draw upon his positive history at Muirfield Village and shoot some low scores this week.
Streelman bookended his week at Colonial with a pair of 68s, ultimately finishing eight strokes shy of Kevin Kisner’s winning score. Outstanding ball striking was the main factor in his strong performance — the Duke product was positively dialed in with his irons, ranking fourth in the field in strokes gained: approach-the-green. That success should aid his chances at the Memorial Tournament, where he’s found the top 20 in each of the past few years. He’s always liable to have a horrific week with the flatstick, but at least his putting has been solid of late.
Winless for nearly three years now, Streelman would love to get his career back on track with a victory this week. He’ll have to get past a tough field in order to do it, but we know just how good he can be when his whole game comes together.
