FedEx Cup Rankings: Top ten breakdown after Colonial
10. Rickie Fowler
1,074 points, 10 events (107.4 avg.)
One win, four top-tens
Last two weeks: Did not play
Fowler remains inside the top 10 despite two weeks of inactivity – a common thread through much of this week’s list. Of course, with the Memorial this week acting as a final tune-up before the U.S. Open for many top players, that makes sense.
Thankfully for Rickie Fowler, time off hasn’t led to a decrease in quality of play. With just 10 starts, he’s tied for the fewest among the top 10 in the FedEx Cup points race. The other guy is at the top of the rankings, and even he missed time due to a freak injury. In other words, Fowler is still really good the vast majority of the time.
No, Fowler isn’t quite on the level of Dustin Johnson right now, but who is? The 28-year-old is picking his spots, and doing everything he can to peak for the game’s biggest events. He’ll get a chance this week at Muirfield Village, where he’ll begin play with Jon Rahm and Hideki Matsuyama on Thursday. If he can recreate the magic of his 2010 debut – Fowler finished runner-up at Jack’s Place that year – he’ll jump up to join them in the rankings, as well.
