3. Justin Thomas

1,855 points, 14 events (132.5 avg.)

Three wins, six top-tens

Last two weeks: Did not play

Thomas elected not to play either of the tournaments in Texas after his missed secondary cut at THE PLAYERS. Back in action this week at Memorial, he’s still looking to back up some of the early-season domination that put him this high in the first place.

Memorial has given Thomas some fits in the past – missed cuts each of the last two years – but the numbers that portend success are there too. At just 145 pounds, Thomas hits the ball a mile, but he’s only able to take advantage of that when he’s hitting greens. He’s done that as well as anybody, ranking 14th on Tour in greens-in-regulation.

As things get a little bit squirrely, Thomas doesn’t get up and down for par at nearly a good enough clip, ranking just 151st in scrambling. The difference-maker in majors, especially the upcoming U.S. Open, is making par when bogey is in play. Thomas has shown he belongs at the top, but the tough part is going to be staying there.
