Newport Beach, California

103 players for 5 spots

One of the most well-known names headed to Big Canyon CC and Newport Beach CC is a name many of us hadn’t heard of until April. That’s 2016 U.S. Mid-Am champion and low amateur at the Masters, Stewart Hagestad. The 26-year-old is playing in his home city and should have a solid chance at grabbing one of the five spots at Erin Hills.

At the age of 22, Beau Hossler has already competed in three U.S. Opens. He’s most known for his appearance at the 2012 Open where he tied for 29th as a baby-faced high schooler. He lived up to the hype at Texas where he was twice the Big 12 Player of the Year.

Two-time PGA TOUR winner and well-known good guy, Paul Goydos, will play near his hometown of Long Beach. Another Californian on the PGA TOUR Champions, Scott McCarron, will tee it up. McCarron owns three senior circuit wins by age 51.

Bangladesh Olympic representative, Siddikur Rahman, will be in the field as one of five internationals.

Charlie Beljan placed in the top 20 at Chambers Bay in 2015 and will seek his fourth U.S. Open appearance. Duffy Waldorf is going for his 14th.

Former U.S. Walker Cup member and Cal Bear, Max Homa, is present.
