St. Jude Classic: Power Rankings for TPC Southwind
By Sam Belden
Billy Horschel
This 30-year-old has made hay at the FedEx St. Jude Classic over the past few years, so he definitely belongs on our radar screens this week. Even taking into consideration his recent inconsistency, Horschel’s track record at TPC Southwind is simply too good to ignore.
Horschel picked up three straight top 10 finishes at TPC Southwind between 2013 and 2015, reeling off a tie for 10th, a tie for sixth and a tie for eighth in that order. While he skipped last year’s edition, his knowledge of the course probably hasn’t suffered much since his last start. Although he’s been erratic at times, the former Florida Gator has managed to pull off his share of highlights this year, including a tie for fourth at the Honda Classic and, of course, a victory at the AT&T Byron Nelson. We know how much he loves this week’s venue, so don’t be surprised if he makes his season twice as nice by taking another trophy.
With his best major event, the U.S. Open, coming up fast, this is an important week for Horschel. The return to TPC Southwind should refresh his game and get him primed for the big stage, and he might even walk away with another win before it’s over.
