Adam Scott

Scott didn’t bring his A-game to last week’s Memorial Tournament, but cut him some slack — it was his first event in a few weeks. Now, with the U.S. Open quickly approaching on the horizon, I’m expecting him to locate that next gear and notch a good result at the FedEx St. Jude Classic.

With five top 15 finishes in just nine starts this year, Scott’s overall form has been perfectly fine. He hasn’t contended for any trophies, but at 18th on the PGA TOUR in scoring average and 19th in total strokes gained, that’s not because he hasn’t been hitting it well. Even at the age of 36, the Aussie remains one of the longest players on the circuit, averaging a whopping 302.3 yards off the tee. It’s been more than 10 years since his one and only career start at TPC Southwind, but at least he logged some low rounds that week, holding the 54-hole lead before fading to an ugly 75 on Sunday.

While he’s underachieved a bit this year, Scott’s game is still head-and-shoulders better than most of his peers. He could easily pull off the win in the Volunteer State this week, especially going up against a relatively lackluster field.
