U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying Results
Ball Ground, Georgia
36 players for 2 spots
Stephan Jäger will forever be known for his 58 at a 2016 Web.com Tour event, but he’s dreaming bigger now.
The German-born Tennessean is still grinding on the Web, but the 28-year-old will be among the world’s best at Erin Hills via co-medalist honors at Hawks Ridge Golf Club.
The world No. 283 finished at seven-under thanks to a bogey-free back nine in round two that included three birdies. Jaeger missed the cut at the 2015 U.S. Open in his only other major championship start.
Also at the top in Georgia was amateur Alex Smalley. The junior on the Duke University golf team adds this honor to his mantle which also includes stroke play medalist honors at the 2016 U.S. Amateur. He was the only player to post two sub-70 rounds in Ball Ground and he made only two bogeys across 36 holes.
Davis “Dru” Love IV and J.T. Griffin grabbed the two alternate spots at six-under. Love chipped in for eagle on the par-5 18th to give himself an outside chance at making it to Erin Hills.
