Rockville, Maryland section

50 players for 3 spots

Sam Ryder, not that Sam Ryder, is your Rockville section medalist by four strokes.

Fresh off three consecutive made cuts on the Web.com tour, the world No. 308 carded the low round of the day by five at Woodmont Country Club with a course-record 62. He made five birdies on the front nine to come in in six-under 30 en route to finishing at 11-under overall.

Kyle Thompson (no relation to Lexi) was the second qualifier. The world No. 343 and five-time Web.com winner was the only man to shoot sub-70 in both rounds (68-69) to advance by three strokes. He also might have the best Official World Golf Ranking profile picture out there, for what that’s worth. This will be his second U.S. Open. He missed the cut in 2012.

Ben Kohles earned the third spot. We haven’t heard much from him since he burst onto the scene 2012 winning his first two Web.com Tour starts as a professional after an All-American career at the University of Virginia. He’ll make his first major championship start at Erin Hills.

Mackenzie Tour player T.J. Howe is the lone alternate from Rockville.
