Peter Uihlein (OWGR – 149th)

Peter Uihlein’s unique career trajectory has been well-documented. Golf has been in his blood from the day he was born; his dad, Wally, is the CEO of Acushnet, the parent of Titleist, FootJoy and Scotty Cameron. He was twice the American Junior Golf Association’s Player of the Year, joining Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods as the only players with that honor.

A Walker Cup winner at Oklahoma State, Uihlein was the top amateur in the world, but failed to earn either European Tour or PGA TOUR membership out of college. Most people would have stayed close to home, but Uihlein decided to ply his craft overseas, and his globetrotting ways haven’t stopped since.

While Uihlein says he isn’t in any rush to become a full-time PGA TOUR member, that doesn’t mean he won’t take advantage of every opportunity. The 27-year-old is coming off a solid T-25 at the Memorial Tournament (his first appearance at Muirfield Village), and just earned his spot at the U.S. Open in Monday qualifying.

As long as he can focus his energy and not look forward to Erin Hills, I’m expecting a strong week from Uihlein in Memphis.
