Kevin Kisner

Despite all his recent success, this South Carolina native still lacks the fame enjoyed by most of his elite peers — probably because he’s yet to represent the stars and stripes in an international match play competition. Still, Kisner has an outsized game to make up for his relatively small name, so he should be able to impress at Erin Hills this week.

Kisner will enter this week on a run of back-to-back top 10 finishes: a victory at the Dean and DeLuca Invitational and a tie for sixth at the Memorial Tournament. Colonial and Muirfield Village are very different courses, so the fact that he was able to contend at both is a testament to the state of his game. He’s also made the cut in his last two U.S. Open starts, shooting a pair of sub-70 rounds to tie for 12th back in 2015. If he can keep swinging his irons well — he ranks ninth on the PGA TOUR in strokes gained: approach-the-green — he’ll have a chance to fare even better this week.

He may not be a household name yet, but don’t sleep on Kisner’s chances at this year’s U.S. Open. He has all the skills he needs to tame a behemoth like Erin Hills.
