An Arizona State product, Carlota Cignada is a fierce and aggressive competitor, as you might expect from someone who regards Seve Ballesteros as her role model.

Ciganda hasn’t been having a particularly outstanding year, but she’s coming to the Meijer LPGA Classic with a score to settle. She finished runner-up to Sei Young Kim last year in a sudden deal playoff that turned on Kim’s outstanding approach shot. Ciganda, who carded four rounds in the mid-60s, played her heart out. She knows this golf course and it suits her game.

Her power off the tee will be an advantage at Blythfield and her occasional ventures to parts unknown probably won’t create much difficulty at this country club track. I’m looking for Ciganda to push for the win. She won’t be the only one in the field with that outcome in mind, but she has the advantage of knowing she can do it on this golf course and wanting to get the job done that she left unfinished last year.
