Jason Day — $10,800
Fantasy managers will have plenty of options at their disposal this week, but no one would blame you for having reservations about the biggest names — Dustin Johnson missed the cut in his last start, Rory McIlroy is returning from injury and Jordan Spieth might lack the length needed to contend this week. Then there’s Day, a U.S. Open stud with enough firepower to dominate at Erin Hills.
Day has already accumulated five top 10s in just six career starts at the U.S. Open, a remarkable rate of success. His well-rounded skill set makes him a solid bet to contend at any course, and his sterling short game — he leads the PGA TOUR in strokes gained: around-the-green — helps him avoid the big numbers that sink so many title bids. A victory at the national open has eluded him, but coming off of back-to-back top 15 finishes, including a solo second at the AT&T Byron Nelson, he’s playing well enough to flip that script this week.
At $10,800 in DraftKings, Day’s price tag doesn’t exactly represent a bargain, but he still looks like a better value play than several of his elite peers. If he can take advantage of the soft conditions, he’ll be in the thick of it.
