Gary Woodland (No. 45)

  • Last start: T-49: the Memorial Tournament (PGA TOUR)
  • 2016 U.S. Open: DNP

Gary Woodland missed the U.S. Open at Oakmont last year and missed the cut the year before at Chambers Bay but his length is going to be a huge asset at Erin Hills. He had consecutive top-five finishes at Pebble Beach and The Honda Classic earlier this season but hasn’t finished higher than 38th in his last seven outings.

J.B. Holmes (No. 52)

  • Last start: T-52: FedEx St. Jude Classic (PGA TOUR)
  • 2016 U.S. Open: MC

Speaking of length, J.B. Holmes has plenty of it and will make his seventh U.S. Open appearance. He’s played the last three, finishing tied for 17th at Pinehurst and tied for 27th at Chambers Bay before missing the cut at Oakmont, but isn’t playing his best coming in. He’s missed two of the last three cuts and finished tied for 52nd in Memphis.

Jason Kokrak (No. 99)

  • Last start: T-35: the Memorial Tournament (PGA TOUR)
  • 2016 U.S. Open: T-37

Jason Kokrak had a nice outing at the AT&T Byron Nelson but outside of that, he hasn’t been spectacular. He finished tied for 35th at the Memorial but missed the cut or finished 56th or lower in his last 10 starts. This will be his first U.S. Open at a venue besides Oakmont. He finished tied for 37th last year and missed the cut there in 2007.

Lee Westwood (No. 54)

  • Last start: T-15: Nordea Masters (European Tour)
  • 2016 U.S. Open: T-32

Time may be running out for Lee Westwood to claim that elusive major. The 44-year-old owner of 42 worldwide victories has finished in the tpo 10 of a major championship on 18 occasions, including five at the U.S. Open, but has never been able to close the door. He finished one shot out of the playoff with Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate in 2008 at Torrey Pines. Is this the week that he gets it done? Stranger things have happened.

Ross Fisher (No. 44)

  • Last start: the Memorial Tournament (PGA TOUR)
  • 2016 U.S. Open: DNP

Ross Fisher played in three consecutive U.S. Opens from 2008-2010 —  his best finish was a solo fifth at Bethpage Black in 2009 — but hasn’t played in one since. However, Fisher is coming in hot. In his last eight tournaments, the Englishman has missed the cut only once (THE PLAYERS) and has been in the top nine five times.

Graeme McDowell (No. 89)

  • Last start: T-27: FedEx St. Jude Classic (PGA TOUR)
  • 2016 U.S. Open: T-18

The 2010 U.S. Open champ from Pebble Beach nearly won another in 2012, finishing one stroke behind Webb Simpson, but has missed the cut two of the last four years. However, he did finish tied for 18th at Oakmont last year and has been inside the top 30 in five of his last six starts on the PGA TOUR.
