Five years ago this week, Marc Leishman won his first PGA TOUR title at the Travelers Championship. That week, he went into Sunday’s final round six shots off the lead, and proceeded to fire an 8-under round of 62. He waited for hours in the clubhouse, only to watch the hard charging likes of Bubba Watson and Charley Hoffman fall just shy of catching up.

Prior to 2017, Leishman had come close to victory a handful of times more, notably when he earned his way into a playoff at the 2015 Open Championship, eventually succumbing to Zach Johnson. After five years of knocking at the door, however, Leishman realized his potential once again in March, winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.

Although he has just two top-25 finishes since then, I’m looking for a continuation of Leishman’s overall success at TPC River Highlands to carry him again this week. Since the 2012 triumph, the Aussie is 4-for-4 in cuts made here, with a T9 finish in 2016 and a T11 in 2014 to his credit. He’s got a solid all-around game working now, ranked seventh in adjusted scoring and 46th in scrambling. Look for more good things to come from Leishman, and soon.
