Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we’re going deep for this week’s No. 5 sleeper candidate at TPC River Highlands. Chris Stroud, currently ranked 397th in the Official World Golf Ranking, is one of those guys that even more devoted fans will look up online and say “who?”.

Here’s your brief bio to get caught up. A 35-year-old out of Lamar University who turned pro in 2004, Stroud has yet to win on the PGA TOUR. Still, this roller coaster of a season is shaping up alright for him. Stroud has made six of 12 cuts so far, with a trio of top-25 finishes. He finished tied for eighth place at the Puerto Rico Open in March, and more recently partnered with Brian Stuard to finish tied for 11th at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

His unluckiest shot in the Big Easy? Hitting his sister with a drive on Saturday, while he and Stuard were still fighting for positioning. She must have known where to stand, since the duo made birdie on the hole.

Here’s what I really love about Stroud, though. He hasn’t missed a weekend at the Travelers Championship since 2007 when he had to withdraw from the event. In his last six starts at TPC River Highlands, Stroud has strung together a remarkable four top-25 showings. That’s “horse for the course” type stuff and I’ll always look for those guys to succeed.
