Kaymer is known to leap up and win when least expected. With the talent he has, it’s hard to believe he hasn’t found the winner’s circle since the 2014 U.S. Open.

Some of his closest calls since have come at the Open de France. Last year, an opening-round 74 put him in a tough position, but he rallied for three closing sub-par rounds to tie for fifth. In 2015, he was under par each round en route to tying for fourth.

He hasn’t missed the cut at the Open de France since his debut in 2008. He came back and won in 2009 and added a T-6 in 2010, a T-4 in 2011, a T-13 in 2013 and T-12 in 2014, so he’s another player that definitely knows what it takes to get it done on this golf course.

Two missed cuts in the last three weeks are Kaymer’s only blemishes in 13 starts in 2017. He’s fared well against strong fields with top-five finishes at the Honda Classic and Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

If you believe in horses for courses, Kaymer’s past performances here make him a solid under-the-radar pick to win.
