Women’s PGA Championship

Chella Choi and Danielle Kang are set to slug it out today at Olympic Fields. Choi is playing for her first major championship title and Kang is playing for her first pro victory and they’re both as hot as 4th of July Roman candles!

Sharing the lead at the LPGA’s second major championship of the season, Choi and Kang are going to battle a chasing pack as well as each other. Former world no. 1 Jiyai Shin is starting the final round at 8-under and trailing by two, and defending champion Brooke Henderson is right behind Shin and chasing hard.

Rookie Madelene Sagstrom bears watching today. She may finally deliver on my preseason prediction that she was going to burn up the golf courses this season. At the end of the first round Sagstrom was T41. She moved a bit in the second round, finishing at T22. She’s played her way up the board to T7 and will go into Sunday’s final round alongside one of the Tour’s superstars, Lexi Thompson.

This will be an exciting and volatile final round. Shin, who won the 2008 Ricoh Women’s British Open and 2010 Evian Championship, most assuredly knows how to close the deal today and Danielle Kang is playing at her peak. Sagstrom has a winning game in her bag that’s probably vibrating and Lexi Thompson can play Sunday rounds with an extraordinary level of grit and determination.

It’s going to be a perfect day for a 4 or 5-way Sunday Shootout at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. NBC begins coverage of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at 3pm ET.
