HARTFORD, WI – JUNE 15: Stewart Cink of the United States plays his shot from the fourth tee during the first round of the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills on June 15, 2017 in Hartford, Wisconsin. (Photo by Streeter Lecka/Getty Images) /

The comeback tour continues for Stewart Cink. The U.S. Open notwithstanding, the 44-year-old Tour veteran is enjoying quite a bit of success in 2017. With top-10 outings at the Dean & Deluca Invitational and the FedEx St. Jude Classic, Cink is playing the best he has all year.

Whether it’s the personal progress he’s enjoyed as his wife, Lisa, has recovered from cancer treatments at the start of the year, or simply a professional renaissance of sorts, Cink is on track for his best year since 2009. Not only was that the last year he won on Tour, it also was the year his name was forever engraved on the Claret Jug.

That Open Championship victory at Turnberry, in a playoff over Tom Watson, may have been his last, but considering Cink’s recent form, it’s tough to count him out anywhere right now. This week will mark his first outing at the Old White TPC, but with The Open just around the corner, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Cink continue to channel that positive energy this weekend.
