John Deere Classic power rankings: Top ten at TPC Deere Run
The final spot in the Open Championship is up for grabs at the John Deere Classic, and we’re breaking down the top ten contenders.
The John Deere Classic takes the PGA TOUR to TPC Deere Run, Silvis, Illinois this week. Raised up in no small part by Jordan Spieth’s pair of victories in recent years, the Deere has built a solid annual field, which this week will be highlighted by seven of the TOUR’s top-30 in the FedEx Cup rankings.
If you’re a fan of shootouts, you should enjoy what you’re about to see. TPC Deere Run often opens itself up to some low scores, with seven of the last eight winners posting a score of -20 or better. In those eight years, five have been won by either Steve Stricker (2009-2011) or Spieth (2013, 15).
The biggest draw of the Deere, however, is its positioning on the schedule. As the final TOUR event before The Open, players looking to qualify at the last second get their chance in the Quad Cities. This spot wasn’t available last year, but in 2015, Tom Gillis found his way onto the trans-Atlantic charter. His Sunday 64 pushed him into a tie with Jordan Spieth, and even though he fell short, he still enjoyed just his third Open, and seventh major overall.
Who do we like for this week’s event in the Quad Cities? Let’s get started with this week’s Power Rankings.
