HARTFORD, WI – JUNE 18: Charley Hoffman of the United States plays his shot from the fifth tee during the final round of the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills on June 18, 2017 in Hartford, Wisconsin. (Photo by Ross Kinnaird/Getty Images) /

Every time you think Charley Hoffman is going to slow down a little bit, he turns on the jets again and shows that he’s got more left in the tank. Hoffman put together an outstanding run at the U.S. Open, and the solo eighth-place finish was his best career showing in a major.

One week later, at the Travelers Championship, Hoffman put together four straight rounds in the 60s, tying for third place, just two shots out of a playoff. At TPC River Highlands, Hoffman put on a show on the greens, ranking sixth in the field in strokes gained – putting.

It’s that type of a hot streak that inspires confidence in Hoffman this week at the John Deere Classic. TPC Deere Run is a course that will require a level of precision, but when birdies are flying, trust in the putter becomes more important than ever.

Hoffman has enjoyed a measure of success here before. Despite missed cuts in his last two appearances – in 2012 and 2013 – Hoffman finished 15th in 2009, and seventh in 2010. I’m looking for more of the same this week.
