Richie Ramsay can become the first Scot to win his home Open since Colin Montgomerie in 1999. The 34-year-old has had an up-and-down 2017 with his best finish coming in last week’s tie for second at the Irish Open. He’s made nine of 14 cuts with a T12 at the Tshwane Open his next highest finish.

Ramsay matched winner Jon Rahm for Sunday’s low round in Ireland, a seven-under 65 that resulted in his best finish since 2015 and an 86-spot jump in the Race to Dubai.

Without a past track record at Dundonald to work with, we’ll cautiously look at recent years’ Scottish Open results on similar links courses.

Ramsay finished tied sixth at Castle Stuart in 2016 and was just three off the pace.

Not a long hitter of the ball (286.7 yards off the tee, 209th on Tour), Ramsay’s accuracy (66.3% fairways hit, 32nd) could be extra beneficial if Dundonald is playing fast. Ramsay is also 16th on Tour in greens in regulation at 73.7 percent.
