David Lingmerth, €16.5

Lingmerth has the potential to play to the top of the board, as his recent performance at the PGA TOUR Quicken Loans National demonstrated. While he wasn’t quite able to close the deal, I was impressed with his power and consistency. If that’s the game he brings to Dundonald Links I’m going to be glad to have him playing for me.

I know Lingmerth missed the cut at the 2016 Scottish Open, but missed cuts do happen and, after all, McIlroy missed the cut last week at the Irish Open. A better indicator of the state of his game is his more recent performance record.

Lingmerth, who plays primarily on the PGA TOUR, hasn’t missed a cut since May at THE PLAYERS and since then he’s found the top-25 in four of his six starts.

In terms of power the Swede is no Jon Rahm, but Rahm’s at the beach with his girlfriend and Lingmerth is on the tee with a game that’s looking dialed in.

There are some reasonable alternatives to Lingmerth. Take a look at Peter Uihlein, Luke Donald, Throngchai Jaidee, or Fabriozio Zanotti. I took a long look at Uihlein but ultimately decided Lingmerth was the better value for my team.
