Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston, €15.2m

Beef is getting warmed up for The Open. He’s been playing a light schedule and I’m hoping he got rid of his worst shots last week at the Irish Open where, like McIlroy, he sat out the weekend outside the ropes.

But Johnston also found a pair of top-25s before that missed cut. To be sure, he’s a streaky player  – don’t forget his ace at the at the 2015 BMW PGA Championship – but the Open de France and BMW PGA Championship were both tests of skill against powerful fields.

The Englishman doesn’t hold back and his salary fits my team budget.

Nicholas Colsaerts, David Lipsky, Kiradech Aphibarnrat, and Alexander Björk are also in Johnston’s salary range and I gave Aphibarnrat a long look although in the end I picked Beef because I’ve been wanting to give him a chance to play for me. I like his game and his style.
